Last year our local branch of the British Legion lost 6 collecting tins in this manner.
Having been involved in the counting of poppy appeal cash it can be anything from £10 up to £50 per can so when full they represent a lot of money lost to the charity.
Usually though we have a raffle and auction of various donations and the members make it a matter of honour to try and make up for any losses to such thefts..
Sadly though we have lost our HQ to recession needs. The bar did not make sufficient profit so now we have no where to conduct such events.I'm thinking the branch stands little chance of survival now.
Never mind there is another branch in the main town centre so I think we will have to put our efforts to supporting them in future years. We are only a mere borough branch and a town with two legion branches was doing very well indeed.
