Slow 10Mb Connection. Old Modem?

Hello,

A long time ago I got 2mb NTL Home Broadband. Probably around 2003 time.
Since then Virgin Media have upgraded their slowest connection to 10MB. Does this mean I should be receiving a '10Mb' connection?

I have still got the original modem - Ambit 08004eu and I use a ethernet connection. The laptop has a 10/100 Mbit LAN port.

I have done speed tests and get a downlload speed of 2Mb.

Is this a normal speed for 10Mb? I have read on a few places that the modem may not support such speeds and I should be receiving around 5Mb?.

If this is the case, is it as simple as asking Virgin for a new model?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom
