Of course, it gets awfully expensive rather quickly - 0845 doesn't get covered by my mobile's minutes and neither does 0800 (if I try phoning tech via the sales line) and of course without a phone in the house, it's useless trying to do anything.
My instinctive reaction is to just bail out right now, as I still seem to have the chance. It just doesn't seem to hold together at all. Searching online and through this forum doesn't give me any confidence to stay with VM. Presumably I've got 28 days as with any other type of prior agreement/contract?

You haev 28 days - give them a chance. Let them sort it out. I'm afraid issues happen everywhere. Just deal with them and make sure you get the necessary credits for your "downtime"
