not true, mpeg2 gets blocky with multiple objects in high motion, mpeg4 is much better at this. SD could look way better if virgin switched to mpeg4, xfactor for example is hurrendously blocky due to 100's of people on the screen, the bitrate could be reduced alot too and save virgin in bandwidth costs. sky's mpeg4 for the hd channels are way better as the encoders are far better even with sky's lower 1440x1080i vs virgin's 1920x1080i.

Virgin need to bite the bullet and spend money on replacing the older non-mpeg4 capable boxes and switching broadcasts to mpeg4, in the long run they would save alot of money but the short term would obviously be costly.
