Aah, I see. So, as long as one doesn't do anything that may compromise safety, the rules don't matter. I wonder if they could apply that retrospectively. It would have meant that the penalty that Hamilton received earlier this year for passing another car may not have happened; seeing as it didn't compromise any safety. Then there is the speeding in the pit lanes, crossing the white line at the end of the pit exit, overtaking at yellow flags after passing the incident. None of these compromise safety most of the time, so they should be allowed to get away with it.

I know it's a far fetched argument, but valid none the same. If JB had known he could have got away with, by not compromising safety, he could have taken the advantage.

There are reasons for rules and the most important one is that when the rules are followed, everyone is on a level playing field. If the rules can be as flexible as this, it makes a mockery of the sport (in my opinion, of course).
