It all depends what you count as 'significant attempt'.
Even then, although if for any reason a company may not have chased the debt - which means it cannot be chased further or count against a credit file, I can't see how it disappears completely within the company you owe it to
So although they couldn't ask for it back if you didn't have any further dealings with the company, if you take up a new agreement it would count
