9 month contract?

Hi,

I've recently moved into a house with 3 housemates in Bath (we're all at Bath uni), and we deciding to get Virgin Media, and thought we may aswell get the TV, phone and internet bundle, as it works out the same price as just the broadband.

I had read online about 9 month contracts for students, so asked about it when I phoned up and was told that it was only for the Broadband, so would have to cancel the TV and phone when we moved out. Didn't mind that as we would have only had to pay £33 (plus whatever Virgin charge for cancelling) after we cancel. So I sorted out an installation date etc, and thought everything was good.

Just got the welcome pack through (over a week after the stuff was installed, and over 2 weeks since I had phoned up), and it says that everything is under a 12 month contract (TV, internet and phone). So when we cancel and leave after 9 months, we will have to pay about £90 (£60 more than what I was led to believe).

Any idea if this is a mistake from VM, or if the guy I was talking to on the phone lied (or just didn't explain it correctly).
Thanks.
