No worse than United treat Berbatov. It was a silly thing to do and he was booked. He wasn'y treated that badly either, but after a while it became ridiculous. He was offside more than any other player in the league, understandable if your always attacking but not if you simply cannot be bothered to walk back onside.
He was often hanging back, not providing supports to Persie (whom he kicked today, again something he also does not have the right to do) or any other attackers.
So he got booed. It turned hostile after he had a go at Arsenal fans in a interview because of that booing and then it just descended.
