Laptop Temperatures

My grandsons HP G6000 laptop is overheating and shutting down to protect itself. I've installed speedfan and it shows the following results when idling on the desktop

GPU 70c
HD 43c
F1(If I remember correctly) 45c
Core Temp 73c

Any activity sends the GPU and Core Temps over 80c and then it shuts down.
There is only one fan as far as I know and I can hear it running.
The laptop is out of warranty

Is the fan running under speed? or is their another problem as I thought the
F1 referred to the processor which the fan is above.
