Sort of retro-charging us for the fact we never paid it in the beginning, and the fact it's free on VIP currently is irrelevant as that's a new deal.

No you don't get it.
The only reason they say the V+ is free with VIP is because it is included in the price quoted. They would say the same if they advertised the XL Plus. On both deals it still shows up as £10 on the bill
For both the XL Plus and VIP you pay the same standard install fee of £30 for the V+ - which at the moment if you order online Virgin are crediting
As I said the ONLY difference between the XL Plus and VIP is the Sport and Movies - the rest is EXACTLY THE SAME.
So even if you signed up to the VIP deal today and then downgraded in a year - based on the current pricing structure you would still have to pay the conversion fee.
