So may I ask what is Unfortunate about his case? That he had to serve anytime at all? He should have been given a clean slate because all he did was "Steal some money"? (He also absconded from Jail, also a crime).
Why do people feel the need to make him into some sort of folk hero, his crime was not minor, it was serious! He boasted about it, lived a good life because of it, and refused to show remorse for it. So please don't try to push the Ronnie Biggs hero rubbish.
Still he is out now,There is probably no need to keep him in jail, I hope his family get some decent time with him. Being compassionate is an important part of our country and culture and it's sad that the general public mood if often against these kinds of acts. Criminals are usual '****' unless they have a a campaign akin to the one mounted for Biggs.

He played a very minor role in that serious crime, wasn't involved in the planning and never hit anyone that night, for everyone making him out to be a hero (not that I have seen anyone here say that) there will be some one else making him out to be a criminal master mind and what was he doing in Australia when he first escaped, working as a gardener, talk about living the high life, oh and FYI his son made a statement last night after his release was announced stating how much remorse he showed for his part in that crime over the years.
