In which case why have a video recorder of any type if you could "just watch it"? I often record programmes to watch at a later time when there's nothing on that I want to watch.

Not really. There have been quite a few times that there's been several things on at the same time that I want to record. Being able to us the +1 channels is very useful.
Just because
you don't watch them doesn't mean they shouldn't be there. There are plenty of channels on the EPG that I never watch, doesn't mean I think they should get rid of them. If it's that much of a problem for you then why don't you just use the favourites list? Then you won't have to see all the +1 channels "clogging up the EPG".
