Firstly condolences to the family and friends of Henry Surtees.
I saw the accident on Eurosport, a pure freak accident. Motor racing is dangerous, you know that when you choose to compete, officiate or spectate, however it really shows why wheel tethers are critical to maintaining adequate levels of safety for all involved. A wheel that comes off a racing car is like a bomb waiting to go off. There was a related incident at the 2001 Australian F1 GP when an errant wheel killed a marshall.
The strength of wheel tethers must be improved to avoid this type of accident.
