In fact, Teletext was on cable - NTL at least - from the beginning, but was pulled around 2004. Only a handful of the original "TV Internet" services live on, including ITN and Bloomberg. Deceased services of note include Guardian Unlimited and Radio Times. [1]
I suspect you're thinking of the
"text" button on the remote control, which as far as I know has never done anything. I wonder whether it was originally intended to launch an "analogue" teletext interpreter. It's exceedingly unlikely that the button couldn't be remapped as a trigger, but since the BBC and perhaps Nat Geo would be the only ones to use it I doubt VM think it's worth the effort - all the text content is available under the red button (and, unique to VM - at least, in terms of platforms with any substantial amount of users - on
any channel through the Interactive menu) and on other platforms carrying BBC Red Button the text button does exactly the same thing as the red button.
Since it's relevant to my post, I ought to point out that Sky Text and Sky Active work a little differently - "text" on a Sky channel (on Sky and Freeview) will take you to Sky Text, and red on a Sky channel (on Sky) takes you to a version of the Sky Active portal.
