It's one way of thinking, I can't really be bothered to talk about punishment in schools. Expect to say it's odd to use a news story about a teacher beating a kid to to point of attempted murder to advocate the cane. More pointing out that you don't gain respect by hitting people, and children are less likely to know what they have done wrong to deserve punishment and will more likely feel a sense of injustice.
