I have exactly the same problem since my D-Link router died on Friday. It worked perfectly for around 2 years.
I then tried my Virgin Netgear router which I had been sent but did not use. Constant dropouts every few minutes - occasionally it managed longer. I also tried a Netgear router (exaclty the same but non-Virgin) - same problem.
Today I had an engineer out and the modem was replaced - just as well as supposedly it didn't support 20mb connection. However 5 minutes after engineer left same problem
At that I gave up and reconfigured an old Linksys router that was acting as a switch. Has worked with no dropouts for over 90 minutes now.
I'm beginning to see Netgear as the problem.

I should also point out that my connection is flawless when I connect a PC directly to the modem, and that I've tried rotating the cables used.

Exactly the same.

Does anyone have any suggestions / suspicions about where the problem could lie? Or perhaps someone has experienced a problem like this before? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried other routers such as Linksys or D-Link?
