I received a new modem recently. It's an Ambit 256 model and came with a fairly chunky mains to 10V d.c. adaptor - about 80x55x55 mm (excluding the pins).
Mine came as a self-install kit but that was because I was was replacing an existing "stand-alone" modem. If you are having an STB modem replaced the job is more complicated as that would require a new splitter and length of co-ax cable to be added to your set-up. I also seem to recall other posters having stated that the installer may need to play about with the connections in the street cabinet to achieve a suitable signal level.
