Re: Network three Laptops (without Router?)

if they all have a wireless card inside or external pci/cardbus/usb cards then its easy.

you just use the cards (windows?) app to set adhoc mode and set all the LapTops to the same IP range 192.168.0.* and you have a temp wireless lan without any routers required.

now you know why all wireless cards have that adhoc mode its easy, takes less than 2 minutes to set up, try it.

with a little messing around you can also set one of them up with a 3G card and run that as your eth0 WAN/web gateway using your internal wireless as eth1(aka Wlan0 etc) in adhoc mode so the other two, or more can also get online....

its not perfect as most 3G networks usually have very limited and restrictive app software that restricts you from making them your web gateway for more than that single PC, but it can be done if your techy enough.

web<->3G-USB2-lap1-int-wlan0-adhoc[BSSID-homer]<---> lap2 and lap3 also set for Adhoc [BSSID-homer] connecting to lap1 [BSSID-homer]

you can also mix and match a wired combination too, but remember its crossover ethernet for PC to pc direct connections.

lap1<-adhoc->---<adhoc>lap2-wired-eth<=x=>wired-eth-lap3

<----> = wireless
<=x=> = wired crossover ethernet cable
<===> = straight wired ethernet
