Pinging my own IP?

I can never ping my own IP. I am now on an external connection and can see my connection is on as I can remotely manage my router. Here is the ping to prove.

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]

C:\Users\Jack>ping xxxxxxxx.ath.cx

Pinging xxxxxxxx.ath.cx with 32 bytes of data:

Any reason for this? Can you ping your own IP?
