Hi,
I'm in area 31, I'm ex-NTL, and I registered for the free upgrade over a week ago. When I registered I got the message that I needed a new mode
m which would be sent to me within 5 working days.
Gave it 7 to be sure and today rang 0845 454 1111 to ask about my new modem. Chap I spoke to said that I wouldn't be getting a new modem because my old one can handle 10mb.
I've got an Ambit ETH/USB Combo Cable Modem and in the "Operation Configuration" it says:
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 2148000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 256000
Which is most definitely 2mb - does this get remotely updated or is the guy talking out of his bum?
I then asked why, if my modem was cable of getting 10mb, was I only getting 2mb? He went on to explain that it was a phased rollout and that my area was due to receive the upgrade in June. When I pushed for something more definite he said mid-June (but he didn't sound too sure).
So, feeling a little peeved I said that since my speed hadn't been upgraded then could I have a refund, because my subscription had already gone up and that wasn't fair, and he replied that he would credit my account with £2 on my next bill.
Childish, I know, but it made me feel better!
Mind you, wouldn't surprise me if everything I've been told was wrong!
