To run a ping on your Mac, open the Applications folder, then open the Utilities folder, and inside that double click on the Network Utility application (its icon looks like the one in my attachment).
When Network Utility starts up, click on the Ping tab, and enter
www.bbc.co.uk in the field near the top of the box, then click 'ping'. The results will be displayed below.

Macs do have a command prompt, as a consequence of using a unix-based core operating system, but they always have been, and continue to be, designed so that you don't
need to use text commands.
The Applications > Utilities folder contains tons of GUI-native stuff that you would have to resort to a command prompt to do in Winblows.
