It would be people like yourself who want the world for nothing which is why broadband in the UK is crap quality and/or is a loss leader for other things. People in the UK as a whole need to get a grip and start reaching into their pockets or shut up complaining about the quality of the services which they tend to not pay much for and still begrudge that.
Here's a couple of figures for you for cable costs elsewhere in Europe:
UPC 60/6Mbit, no STM is 55GBP/month
Comhem 50/10Mbit, with performance range of 25-50Mbit/7-10Mbit is 36GBP/month and this is in Sweden.
Both of these countries have a much lower cost of living than the UK, yet one the product is more expensive overall, the other it's more expensive if you don't take a phone line.
Notice the higher upstream on both the products, probably in part due to the extra profit margins on there. VM will probably improve over time with this product but it's still very new so the prices are bound to be high, and it's bound to be rushed as they're trying to keep costs minimal.
It's just amusing that for all the things the UK pays through the nose for people jump up and down screaming if they're asked to pay more than the cost of a couple of beers a week for a service many use each and every day.
Sky are cheap as the broadband is a loss maker to retain TV customers. O2 ditto but with mobile.
Oh yes United States too:
Comcast 50Mbit/10Mbit -
130GBP/mth
Comcast 22Mbit/5Mbit -
68GBP/mth
Charter 60Mbit/5Mbit -
96GBP/mth
I found one in North America that isn't too far outside the required price though:
Videotron 50Mbit/1Mbit - 45GBP/mth
Though it does have a 100GB/mth bitcap and per GB billing over it.
