the 360 issue should be a simple thing, USE static IP and related setting

as in dont let the router, any router try and give you an IP (the address each device uses to talk to each other)

assuming the router has an IP of 192.168.1.1 the generic IP for the wnr 2000 router.

in the cmd shell type ping 192.168.1.1 , http:///192.168.1.1 should open the routers internal mini web server pages if thats the right IP No. to be sure

so go to your 360, settings/system settings/network settings/configure settings and add

IP settings manual

ip address 192.168.1.22
(or any No upto 253 replacing the .22 part if thats already taken on the LAN.)

DNS settings
Primary DNS server 192.168.1.1
(assuming thats the right IP for the router pages, or replace with the right No.)

Secondary DNS server 194.168.8.100
(194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 are Virgin media's prime and secondary DNS server IP adresses, you need one of these to resolve the web page names you enter into your browser pages into their real IP No.s VMs primary DNS has had problems lately so use the secondary one 194.168.8.100 instead)

the 360 should now pass the networking check and connect throught router if that initial 192.168.1.1 IP address is the right one for the router, get that right and the rest just works if you use those settings.....

remember though the 360 wireless (if thats the problem (wireless) Lan connection you speak of ?), adaptor is infact the old 11g kit, Not the new faster 11n kit you got with the *VM 50Mbit/s connection so if your using its wireless adaptor it will show the router down to that speed and increase the ping times, wired 360 directly into one of the routers LAn ports is alwasy going to be easyer and better if you can route the ethernet straight though RJ45 cabling/wire. .

see
http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=35272
for more info IF the above doesnt work as a quick fix for you first, fixed IPs are always better anyway, try and learn and understand them and use fixed IPs on all your home LAN kit later...

* you dont have a "50mb fibre optic connection " NO matter what Virgin Media personel or advertising tell you, you have a 50Mb/s download ,crumby 36 to 1 upload ratio (Big M =Megabit, little m=mibibit, you have a better 50Mb/s ) HFC (Hybrid fast Fibre optic plus far slower copper CABLE) connection .
