Been doing it for years, when I was a kid we used to pinch the flashing lights from the side of the road when they were doing roadworks
we used the big batteries to power our space invader games machines via 2 wires inserted into the power socket until one lad took one battery to pieces to discover loads of AA batteries inside one big lantern battery, these batteries powered our space invader machines.
