That sounds horribly wrong!!!

It's entirely possible to use an NTE5 faceplate, and then split extensions off that - that's what I did, and it worked fine. Then just run a cable to the modem. Failing that, you just put splitters on every end device - it's basically the same deal.

That sounds like a total botched job. Check the NTE5 first though - is it a plain face plate, or a splitter?
