The licence fee is not a subscription to the BBC. That's why you can't remove it. The licence fee is the means by which the UK Government has chosen to ensure the UK has a quality TV and radio broadcast system that is not compromised by commercial or political pressures. You benefit from the BBC's existence whether you watch/listen to/browse its content or not.
