You probably do not need an Anti-Virus on your Mac. The trust is there has only ever been one, maybe two, viruses in the wild on the mac and they did not spread that easily. One of them didn't even work and was treated more as a proof of concept than a virus. If an outbreak does occur you should have time to get an Anti-Virus as it would be big news, anything faster than that would reach your machine before the anti-virus company can deal with it anyway!

I don't know about Chris but I waited four years to upgrade my macbook pro, towards the end it was getting slow for my needs but that was with the old generation of processors. This one is a year and a half old and the technology has not really advanced that much (mine is a 2.4Ghz Dual Core Intel Processor).
