I certainly wouldn`t be surprised if a whole load of drivers were missing zing but surely if the LAN/NIC drivers
were missing they wouldn`t have
any network connection...regardless of using modem/router?
Or am i missing something?

Can you check your device manager to see what drivers are missing,if any?
Then you can do what zing suggested and go chase them up with the help of everest.
