A DMZ is port forwarding...for every port on the device. Whereas port forwarding only forwards specific ports or ranges of ports.

I don't have a PS3, but a 360 instead, but the issues are still basically the same. I have my 360 set as a DMZ and

Try running a traceroute to your router to see if it's responding well. If you don't know how, here's some instructions.

If your computer/laptop is connected via a wire, try going in Start > Run > cmd on Windows XP, or Start > cmd (in the searchbar) on Vista. (If on Vista you may have to run cmd as an administrator)
Then type 'tractert 192.168.1.1' (without the '' and make sure your routers address is right...it may be 192.168.0.1 or something similar)

That will run a traceroute to your router, and display it's address and response time. Good routers nowadays display <1ms as the response time.

Also, if you can, disable UPnP on your router, this can cause NAT problems.

I also have my router scheduled to reboot every day during the night.
