Some people think he may be the Daniel from Caprica (which he can't be, as Greystone created Colonial Cylons before the Five arrived at the Colonies - although maybe Daniel was based on Greystone like Paul suggested), some think that Daniel may be Starbuck, some think that Daniel may by Starbuck's father...

Then again... "Daniel" may have simply been created to ret-con the inconsistent/incorrect numbering of the original Skinjobs... ["There are 12 models", & we knew 1 to 6, & 8... Having the Final Five be numbers 7, 9, 10, 11, & 12 would have worked fine originally... until they decided to make them special, & have them be the creators of the other seven (now eight)]
