Anything faster than standard 'G' speeds relies on everything on the network being up to spec.
Eg, if you put an N router with the G adaptors, it will still work, but at G speeds.
Also a G router should be able to max out a 10mb broadband link.
You mention the PC & XBox have G adaptors, but what does the laptop have? If it's only a B adaptor it could be dragging down the speed of the whole wireless.
