This isn't about 'permanent' jobs, it is about contractors, permanent jobs don't usually get "tendered out".
My question remains as before, why did the companies tendering for the contract, who might have employed an UK workforce, not get awarded the job in favour of an Italian company with an existing complement of workers?
I still maintain the problem is probably more to do with the UK 'package' being uncompetitive - in my opinion we should be directing more effort to redress that balance, rather than complaining 'it isn't fair' ?????
Remember 'Auf Wiedersen Pet'? - loads of UK construction workers going to Germany wasn't a problem, then, when they had a skills shortage.
In my opinion we should be protesting about the bigger picture of the lack of vocational training opportunities, which is keeping us uncompetitive, rather than concentrating on just one contract ????
