Re: Battlestar Galactica - Razor & Season 4
I was/am a keen fan of the original series, for all its faults. I saw the trailer for Richard Hatch's proposed revival at Cult TV '03 (and joined in the 3-minute standing ovation it deservedly got!). So this version took a while to grow on me; I kept catching bits of it while visiting the parents at weekends, wondering what the frak was going on, and why the Cylons were either human now or of human manufacture, and why/how Starbuck became a woman (that really took some getting over!). But finally I got to watch the pilot movie in its entirety and it started making more sense.
And grow on me it did; I now have all 4 seasons on DVD. Razor was superb, I thought. Katee Sackhoff really won me over; I imagine Dirk Benedict (who I've also met at Cult TV - thoroughly nice bloke, with time aplenty for his fans) approves.
Lucy Lawless as a blonde was also a shock, but she's so gorgeous that didn't take as long to subside.
One thing I love, being a keen modelmaker, is the constant nods to the original series re the ships in the fleet - Colonial Movers (We Move Anywhere), for example, or the livery ship (now a mining ship) which was in fact 3 empty movie reels stuck together and dressed up with detail. And the Viper II - even better-looking than the original. More raked-back, sleeker, beautiful!
I loved Nicki Cline (Callandra [Cally] Tyrol nee Henderson) - she was so cute. And feisty, too ("Hey, Cally, is it true you bit the guy's ear off?" "He's lucky that's all I bit off!" - excellent!). The characters are all so well-drawn; few cliches. Roll on the last season, and here's hoping they can somehow bring it to the big screen. Maybe do a prequel showing the First Cylon War? We can but hope.
Oh, almost forgot: someone mentioned Tigh and Six earlier - hasn't it occurred to anyone that maybe he didn't get it on with her, and that the baby is in fact Baltar's? Remember his frequent menages a trois on the Cylon baseship with Six and D'Anna (hoo, there's a mental image for you - Tricia Helfer and Lucy Lawless in the same bed! Rowf!)?
And hey, what about Nick (Cally's and Galen's son)? He's half-Cylon, too...
