router, PC or modem problem?

Hello I’m writing this in desperation as I can’t work out if I have a router, PC or modem problem.
My setup is VM BB XL New Black Modem and a Belkin N1 router hard wired Athlon pc xp sp3 Pbell quad core 4G Ram Vista 32bit sp1. wireless Lexmark printer, Toshiba satellite pro XP sp2 and a wii all working fine until just after new VM modem replaced old NTL silver one due to modem kept dropping connection to VM and trying to reboot it’s self. Fist few days all seamed to be working ok new PBell downloading at brake neck speed even the poor old tired Athlon with 512 Meg received a sped boost but then started to get unable to open page web site not found Bla Bla Bla on all pc’s. A ping of the DNS servers showed ok IP ok could still connect to VM pages new on’s not in history, but content taking long time to come down BBC and a few other sites but sites like google.co.uk would not load but going to ASK.co.uk and searching for google.co.uk would let me onto Google hence my thinking re DNS Server. Only other work around is down power PC, router and modem wait 5 mins reboot modem wait till modem online then router and finally PC this seems to work most of the time.
Things i.ve tried to do so far to resolve this are. Update router firmware Turned of router firewall left Norton on windows off made sure all units on same workgroup set internet options, Internet properties, Lan all un checked also tried checking automatically detect settings. Not sure if this helps but outlook some times will not connect to server reboot pc seams to resolve this. Just thinking of allowing icmp pings on router not sure what the security implications are. Any help or advice very gratefully received.
David
