Seriously fluctuating connection with Belkin Router

Hi all.

My problem is that the wireless connection between my router and my pc (about 10m away) fluctuates hugely and sometimes looses connections (when trying to download stuff).

I am using a Belkin N1 Wireless Desktop Card on my PC and my router is a Belkin N1 Vision Part: F5D8632uk4A.

My PC is running Windows XP. My ISP in the UK is Be Unlimited.

I tried with a laptop next to the router and I get a constant connection download speed(speedtest.net) of around 15 mbps. On the other hand my PC connection varies from 0.1 mbps to 6 mbps (average of 2.5). I guess if it was constant at 2.5 mbps it would be fine but the fluctuations are driving me insane.

I tried with both the router and pc card antennae around 0.6m off the floor but a door is slightly in the way of LOS. As such, I placed both on the floor and there is LOS between the 2 devices. My Router is located just to the side of my bed on the floor.

What is strange is that even my laptop, which I moved next to my PC and which does not have a wireless desktop card anywhere as near as good as the Belkin N1 gets a constant connections speed of 6 mbps. I just cannot understand why my PC gets a slower and much more fluctuating connection.

I also detected the other wireless channels in my area and changed from channel 11 to 9. The closest wireless was detected as having a very poor connection. Most people are on channels 11, 6, 5, 2 or 1 so I though 9 would be fine.

Some signal/noise details:

SNR: 42
Signal+: -42
Noise-: -100
SNR+: 58
Signal: -58
Noise: -100

I do have a wireless phone next to my PC (and laptop now) and even tried turning this off but it did not fix anything.
