Unfortunately, the Palestinian - Israeli conflict has been a problem since before 1947.

The British Mandate of Palestine pre 1948, the declaration of Independence by Israel in 1948 and the displacement and possible mistreatment of thousands of Palestinians at that time has generated an intense, ongoing hatred between Palestinians and Israelis and has created a festering wound that needs to be healed.
The Palestinian unhappiness at the carving up of Palestine has, since the creation of Israel, led to attacks from various neighbours of Israel.
Israel, with the assistance of the USA, has managed to fight off these attacks but it seems likely that these attacks will continue in some form or another until a mutually acceptable diplomatic solution is found and there is complete acceptance & tolerance of both a Palestinian state and an Israeli one.
