They have one modem, but with two interfaces and two IP addresses. One for broadband and one for interactive. STBs use DOCSIS, except for Pace boxes on the Langley network which use DAVIC. The DOCSIS profile for interactive is typically 256K down / 192K up.

Yes, it can be downgraded to behave like a standard box, with no PVR functions and no HD.
