Yes, that's definitely a box problem. It could be overheating - make sure you've got plenty of space around it, and the vents on the bottom aren't blocked.
If improving the ventilation doesn't help, you'll have to keep reporting it to Faults until they send someone out to swap the box. You could try reporting it on the virginmedia.support.tv newsgroup instead of the phone.
