Anyway Welcome to the Cable Forum.
i'm not as up on the settings as some on here.
but i'm pretty sure you just need a dynamic ip but as i said before you should just be able to switch everything off and switch back on in the order above and it should pick it up.

The modem should be ok it is a little old but otherwise should be no problem, also you should not need to manually set anything up to pick up the basic settings, only when you have got connected then you go into the router settings and set up the security on it.

i have heard on some routers that you need to connect via a cable to the back of the router first to set it up, then you can connect via wireless, might be worth a try i know you have said you have tried it wired but did you follow the instructions above when you did it.
