There are 2 reasons for this (one VM's and the other my hypothesis)

VM say that if you fill up the memory of the V+ box with recordings and keep them for a long time the box disk 'corrupts' and the only way to restart is by wiping the drive and starting again.

The techs will replace your boxes when they come

worringly VM have ideas to sort this problem out remotely via the cable itseldfin the near future (by deleting all your recordings for you (nice) and rebooting the unit)

Hypothesis

DESPITE being told the above both techs fitted forward path attenuators (1 was 4db and the other 10db) - this leads me to believe that the cable signal was set too high for the box and it got fried (or something like that)

faults will only do a remote format if you ring in with a fault and they deem it neccessary and yes you lose your recordings, also if a tech calls and swops the stb you lose your recordings, where is the worringly part?
