Are these cards agp or pci e(I aint seen a 9800GT so I am guessing they are pci e)? if they are pci e does your board support sli? if so you could run both cards. Have you tried the original card again just to rue out a rogue setting?

Cards are PCI-E 9800gt is a newer variant of the 8800gt with a smaller die. Board isnt SLI unfortunately but I may try the older card tomorrow just for peace of mind.
Just tried the reg hack and it hasnt worked, but its late, im knackered and I could have gone wrong somewhere.
If it doesnt work we have ordered 5.1 speakers with wireless remote which will solve the speaker problem.

I actually brought the 4850 on Thursday from PC world £112. But it went back cause when I got home I discovered it was a used one.
I did have a play with it tho and had no end of trouble with the drivers 8.5 through to 8.9. The card wouldnt bench at all and all progs stopped responding before they started. But the HD output was excellent, the card was super quiet if a tad warm. That went back and I got the 9800GT which has Physics-X built in.
