right wht should i do thn is it a modem problem is the cable in the street done wrong or am i stuck cause its really annoying me

i took the ethernet cable and put it into the modem (instead of the router )whn i was getting lag and the lag was gone, although i had to reset the modem and my pc maybe tht made a difference?
