I think it depends on the drivers. AFAIK some USB based printers just don't work via Printer sharing.

Better to try and find a cheap Wi-Fi printer instead

I bought the HP Photosmart C4380 for Ã‚Â£70 which is a fantasic printer and the Wi-Fi works really well (although like all HPs the software is a bit bloated), however it seems to be have been discontinued
