Do I install the software that will come with the router? Download the latest version from some Linksys website? Or download 3rd party software and start from there?

Regarding the third party software, could anyone provide any links (in this forum or elsewhere) giving instructions/help with the setup and the use of the 3rd party software? I would not consider myself a "power" user neither do I use P2P, torrents etc. hence I am not sure I would be comfortable with too many options and features to fiddle with. So, I guess, my question would be what does the 3rd party software has to offer to the average/ignorant user in terms of performance, stability and security?

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you!

There is no software that you need to install when you receive the router. The Linksys firmware is already loaded.
You can download the file Tomato_1_21.z from
here, unzip it to decompress the firmware & follow the user guide to load & set it up
here.
There is a list of the features
here.
To be honest though, if you don't use P2P with lots of connections, or anything that would benefit from better QoS capabilities (such as a VOIP phone) it may not be of that much use to you.
Dragon may be able to comment on any increased stability in day to day use.
