DMZ has nothing to do with encyrption. It simply allows all ports to point to your computer. Do NOT do this, it leaves you open to attack unless you know what you are doing.

If you're on 11Mbps wireless you're likely not going to get it. I'm on 54Mbps wireless and I get about 25Mbps at most, literally half. 300KB/s is about 1/3 of the speed so I'm guessing its just a limitation in the hardware. Since your wireless card is 54Mbps compatible just buy a new router with 54Mbps or higher wireless speeds and that should help. I recommend the Linksys WRT54G.
