Awwww Graham!... well to be fair it came with a USB N adapter too :o) so seemed like a good idea at the time as they say.... pay peanuts...get stuff built by monkeys I guess? ;o)

Am now awaiting delivery of a Netgear item that is the other end of the price spectrum... lets see if that improves things :o)
