... so the best solution is to go to Maplins and buy a short length of satellite-grade coax with moulded F connectors already on both ends - then use that instead of the existing wire or any dodgy DIY job.
However, be aware that sometimes, altering cable lengths can upset your cable service, and if doing this results in a tech visit, you will then get charged to fix it. I'd say it's worth the risk, personally.
