For the last 2 years i have been using USB connected to the cable modem with no problems what so ever. The minute i plug in ethernet and things just don't go right. Ethernet connection drops if i am downloading a large file and the pc needs rebooted. I have even noticed using Mirc (a chat client) that when you login it cannot find my ident which works fine when using USB.

This is definetley a software issue and not a hardware one as my modem has worked great for a number of years. I do not get the limited or no connectivity (it is ticked to show if this happens) when the ethernet connection dies.

I am using Windows Xp - Sp2
Scientific Atlanta Cable Modem which is working properly.

Can anyone help please ?

Neil
What model is the modem is it a DPX100 or 110 or a EPC2100 and when you plug the Ethernet cable in do you take out the USB cable.

Can you post your power levels as well by going to http://192.168.100.1/
