i didn't either i was short of a usb socket on the back of my main pc and i remembered seeing one on the back of the router, so i just tried it and it was ok
it doesn't say anything in the manual though

i don't know i'm a man i never read the instructions lol but it seems to work ok for my external drive well it's been ok for the last 6-7 weeks
