I couldn't find answers to all of my questions so, perhaps you might try to sell it to me some more?

It says it would work with digital cable (although there are mentions of bugs) - of course it won't access the HD content, but which of the types of material available on the V+ would I be able to access (still with a subscription to VM, of course)? e.g. standard channels, subscription channels, PPV and catch-up VOD services.

Only one tuner and no HD content... I am curious - but I can't see how this is as good as, let alone better than, my V+ box.... so what are the benefits?
I have $ky not vm telly and the connection goes like this

sky -- tivo -- telly both are scart connections.

hd content? don't have a sky hd box or an hd telly so I don't care. Let's not even reopen the can of worms regarding the limits of the eye to even perceive the difference.

whatever channels sky pump out, if I can view it on the screen without the tivo then the Tivo can record it. In the clear and unencrypted!

As regards the software - let's just say I measure the up time in WEEKS not hours, usually gets a reboot because I've upped new logo's or new software to it.

If you want to listen to the radio with the 4 digit channel numbers it needs a software patch, easily installed. Not bothered with this as I listen to the radio on the net.

Season passes that actually, GASP, work Set a season pass once and forget it, *whenever* the program comes back on it'll record it. My season pass for MotoGP was setup 2 years ago and I've never ever missed a program.

I am told the $ky box deletes a "season" or "series" link about a week or two after the last in the series is transmitted. Don't know about the VM box.

One tuner, well in our house we only have one telly (strange people I know) and being busy people we never get time to watch everything that you can record on a single tuner anyway....

What about program clashes I hear you ask? Irrelevant, the Tivo simply records the highest priority one and gets the other when (if) it is repeated.

To give an example. We have Speedway Grand Prix higher priority than Dr Who (not *my* choice). If there is no Speedway Dr Who gets recorded, if there is Speedway on then that gets recorded and it simply records Dr Who at 8pm on Sunday....so simple and logical.

If there are no repeats then you are stuffed, but in todays world most things are broadcast several times.

No desire for HD, ordinary SD works for us.

Even when everything goes fully digital it'll still work.

Some people won't want to buy secondhand kit that's 6 years old, I can understand that, but the s/w in both sky & vm is several years behind Tivo in functionality.

If you want to see what a PVR should *really* be like, one with built in Ethernet (can also buy a wifi adaptor!) look at this

Sadly there are NO plans to launch this in the uk
